How does the selling process work?

Accepted Answer

Once we have had a look at your instrument and valued it there are three options for you to get it sold:

Selling Direct

This is by far the simplest and fastest method, we buy your guitar, synth, pedals etc. directly off you and you have cash in your bank account the next day. This method is perfect if you just want the money in your pocket straight away without any complications.

Selling on consignment (aka Sale or Return)

In this case we display your instrument in store and online and just take a small commission when it sells. This will get you a better return than selling directly to us but you will be waiting until the instrument is sold which could take some weeks or even months. It is slower but it's ideal if you want to maximise your return and aren’t in a hurry.

Part-exchange

See something you like in-store? Well then part-exchange is for you! Use your gear to take some of the burden off your wallet. This works much the same as selling direct but instead of cash you just get more gear, isn’t that wonderful!

Question 2

How much will you give me for my guitar?

At Outpost Music Exchange we are experts in valuing used instruments and equipment. When you contact us with something to sell we use our extensive knowledge of the second-hand market, as well as completed listings from the internet, to assess the likely sale value of your items.

As we are a good ol’ fashioned bricks and mortar store we do have overheads that we need to cover and so we do need to make a margin on the things that we buy (as well as a slice for the tax man of course). What portion of the potential sale value we pay is variable depending on a variety of factors but be assured that we pay the best prices that we can for used gear and will always offer you the fairest price that we can. If we can’t offer you as much as you would like then we can always sell your gear on commission for you.

We take the following commission when we sell your gear on your behalf:
1. Under £1,000, our commission is 25%
2. £1,000 to £5,000, our commission is 20%
3. £5,000 and above, we agree a custom rate.

Question 3

I have a lot of guitars, amps and gear to sell, will you do home collection?

Accepted Answer

If you have a lot of equipment that it is difficult for you to bring down to the store then we can collect on a case by case basis. Please get in touch through our ‘Sell my guitar’ page to find out more.

Question 4

I have a guitar I need valued for insurance purposes, do you provide this service?

Accepted Answer

We can indeed. We understand that many people want to insure their precious instruments and need their values verified for the paperwork, with considerable experience in pricing instruments (including vintage and rare pieces) we are more than happy to help you with this.

Question 5

My guitar is broken, can you fix it?

Accepted Answer

We certainly can! We host a fantastic repair bench that offers everything from restringing to fret-levelling and electronics modifications. Each job is unique so please do get in touch via our contact form so we can get your guitar back in shape and playing again!
